Transactional Analysis Therapy

Transactional Analysis is based on the theory that we have three different parts of our personality: the parent, adult and child and our mental health and wellbeing is dependent on our ability to move between these effectively.

Who is Transactional Analysis Therapy for?

Solution Focused Therapy, also known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy or SFBT, is an approach developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg in the 1970s and is thought to help individuals, couples, families and children with a number of emotional and psychological problems.

How Does Transactional Analysis Therapy Work?

Transactional Analysis is based on the theory that we have three different parts of our personality: the parent, adult and child and our mental health and wellbeing is dependent on our ability to move between these effectively. Transactional Analysis explores which of these parts we use most often and how this can be changed to enhance our relationships.

I had a course of CBT Counselling with The Harley Psychology & Therapy Group (Richmond) and although it didn’t provide me with the quick fix miracle solution I was hoping for, it has made my problems feel more manageable.

What the Research into Transactional Analysis Says

Research studies found positive outcomes when Transactional Analysis was combined with behavioural modification to treat child and adolescent behavioural problems. Whilst there are studies that suggest Transactional Analysis yields positive outcomes, this approach is currently lacking a robust evidence base, unlike therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
