Who is Hypnotherapy for?

Hypnotherapy can help people with a number of health problems including, Addictions, Anxiety, Bereavement, Chronic Pain, Depression, Fears & Phobias, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Sleep Problems and Stress.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

Hypnotherapy is a general term for any therapy that makes use of hypnosis and is usually used in conjunction with another therapy. Hypnosis involves being guided by a therapist into a state of deep relaxation (or trance) where it is thought that either an individual will be more suggestible to making changes to their behaviour (e.g. stopping smoking) or more able to explore painful thoughts or memories that they have blocked out.

I had a course of CBT Counselling with The Harley Psychology & Therapy Group (Richmond) and although it didn’t provide me with the quick fix miracle solution I was hoping for, it has made my problems feel more manageable.

What the Research into Hypnotherapy Says

There is limited evidence to support the effectiveness of Hypnotherapy treatment for the following problems; cessation of smoking, weight loss and pain management. Research has also shown some support for Hypnotherapy in treating symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) notes Hypnotherapy as a viable treatment for this condition. However, Hypnotherapy is rarely used successfully as a stand alone treatment.
