Philosophy

I believe that people are always trying their best to cope, but sometimes these ways of coping stop working as well or become problems themselves. When I am working with a client, I am always keeping in mind that person’s context – their background, culture, relationships, and life experiences, which are essential to understand their perspective and choices. When working with parents and babies, I know how much pressure there is to be ‘perfect’ parents and how much strain that can cause.

Approach

I know that feeling safe and understood is key to getting the most from therapy, so I create a compassionate and non-judgemental space for clients to talk through their difficulties. I work together with clients towards their desired goals.

I am a specialist in perinatal mental health. I work with challenges that may arise for parents at different stages, including fertility issues and loss, gender disappointment, fear of birth, birth trauma, intrusive thoughts, antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression, and difficulty bonding. I support parents to adjust whether it is their first child or they are juggling a growing family.

I draw on several key approaches depending on the evidence base and client’s preferences, including cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, narrative exposure therapy, and systemic family therapy. I can also support the development of the parent-infant relationship through VIPP (video feedback intervention to promote positive parenting).

Motivation

There is nothing more rewarding than supporting someone through a difficult time and being trusted in that role. For those who are pregnant or have young children, it is such a pivotal time of reevaluating many aspects of life, relationships and priorities, and I get additional satisfaction knowing any benefits they get from therapy will have a huge benefit for their child, too.

About Me

I am from Yorkshire originally and have lived in London for 15 years. I love spending time with family and friends, travelling, gardening, doing DIY projects, and listening to audiobooks.

I had a course of CBT Counselling with The Harley Psychology & Therapy Group (Richmond) and although it didn’t provide me with the quick fix miracle solution I was hoping for, it has made my problems feel more manageable.
