Counselling for Parents

Counselling for Parents

As parents we are the architects of our children’s personalities and the single biggest influence in their lives.  Having a child is a responsibility for which we receive no training and more often than not little guidance and support.

Who Can Counselling for Parents Help?

Medico Legal Expert Services

Are you struggling to manage the responsibilities of being a parent?  Are you finding it difficult to understand and manage your child’s behaviour?  Do you feel that you need more support and information than your friends and family can offer?  Does your child have health issues that you find difficult to cope with? Have you found that your relationship with your partner has changed for the worse since you have had children? Are you struggling with parenting following a divorce or bereavement?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to one or more of these questions you may benefit from our counselling services for parents.

A Recent Testimonial

“I cannot comment positively enough on the psychologist I saw at The Harley Psychology & Therapy Group. She provided a structured yet flexible framework for discussing my issues, was insightful and at times necessarily firm and challenging which was exactly the sort of counsellor I had hoped to be paired with.”.

What Does Therapy for Parents Involve?

Step 1

One of our Therapists will begin by meeting with you to discuss the difficulties that you are experiencing, your worries about being a parent and any problems that you are having with your child or children and/or partner about parenting. They will also ask you some more general questions about your life, relationships, work and expectation for your counselling to help them to determine the best course of action for your particular circumstances.

Step 2

Your Therapist will then help you to understand why you find yourself in the current position and why any efforts you have made to change things have been unsuccessful. They will offer tips and techniques for working through the problems you are experiencing.

Step 3

They will then teach you strategies to overcome the challenges that you face as a parent, develop a more sophisticated understanding of what children need and how to meet those needs.

Step 4

Finally, your Therapist will help you to identify what you need for yourself and then support you to get these needs met so that you can find some peace, contentment and satisfaction in your role as a parent and in your other endeavours.
