We offer evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals 16+ years experiencing symptoms of ASD. ASD can be diagnosed at any age, but it is described as a “development disorder” because symptoms usually appear in the first two years of life.
Autistic Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong disorder. Nevertheless, treatment can improve symptoms, daily function, and quality of life.
Counselling can benefit not only those with a formal diagnosis but also individuals who suspect they may be on the spectrum and are seeking clarity or support. Whether you’re struggling with social interactions, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or daily routines, The Harley Psychology & Therapy Group can help you better understand yourself and develop tools to thrive.

Autistic individuals may experience challenges that aren’t always outwardly visible, such as difficulties with social communication, managing change, heightened sensory sensitivities, or feeling overwhelmed in daily life. You might notice persistent anxiety, emotional exhaustion, or a sense of not fitting in. If these issues are affecting your wellbeing or relationships, counselling could be beneficial.
Autism therapy provides a supportive space to explore your experiences, build confidence, and develop strategies for everyday life. Seeking help can be the first step towards better understanding yourself and improving your quality of life.
Living with autism can lead to emotional stress, especially in environments that don’t feel inclusive or supportive. Feelings of isolation, frustration, anxiety, and low mood are common, particularly if you’ve struggled to be understood or accepted. These emotional challenges can affect your relationships, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.
Reaching out to a therapist can help. Mental health professionals offer tools to manage emotional difficulties, providing validation, and working with you to build resilience. With the right support, many individuals find greater clarity, improved relationships, and a stronger sense of self.
To ensure an accurate and helpful diagnosis that can be used to work out the best way forward for you, the assessment involves several steps.
You will be sent several psychometric tests to complete and return. These consist of multiple-choice questions about your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours and will help us build a picture of you and the difficulties you are experiencing. The tests are quick and easy to complete, but if you experience any problems or have any questions, we are here to help you.
You will meet with an assistant psychologist via video call, and they will ask you a series of questions about the experiences that have led you to suspect you may be suffering from ASD. This meeting will last approximately 20-30 minutes and will be recorded and reviewed by a consultant clinical psychologist to assess your social and communication skills.
You will meet via video call with the consultant clinical psychologist who reviewed the video recording in Step 2 to discuss your experiences in more depth. This meeting will last approximately 40-50 minutes.
You will be asked to nominate an ‘informant’, a close family member or friend who has known you since you were a child. This person will meet via video call with the consultant clinical psychologist and be asked a series of questions about your development milestones. If you are unable to nominate an ‘informant’, alternative ways of gathering this information will be discussed with you.
One week after the assessment is complete, you will receive a report outlining the details of your assessment, diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment. If you would like to meet for a further session with the consultant clinical psychologist to discuss the report, this can be arranged but is not included in this package.
