Philosophy

I believe that everyone has the potential to live a rich and meaningful life, but sometimes events in our lives can leave us feeling helpless and unable to move forward. This is where I can help. Therapy can support you to develop or rediscover skills that will help you to overcome problems and build up the resilience to tackle future challenges. It can provide you with the space to understand yourself and your relationships better so that you can reconnect to things that truly matter and bring joy to your life.

Approach

I am an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience working in the NHS with children, young people, families and adults struggling with a range of difficulties across a variety of settings (including working in schools).

I draw upon a range of therapeutic models during assessment and therapeutic work, depending on the individuals’ presenting needs and preferences. These include CBT and behavioural therapy, attachment and play based approaches, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy and systemic approaches.

I am experienced in supporting individuals across the lifespan to overcome a range of difficulties including: anxiety, specific phobias, stress, anger, low mood, low self -esteem, trauma, adjusting to changes in circumstances (e.g. changes at home), sleep problems, OCD, behavioural difficulties, social difficulties (e.g. problems making or keeping friends, issues with bullying), parenting difficulties, relationship difficulties, developmental delays or concerns, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders and cognitive assessments (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC).

At the beginning we will spend time to create a safe and collaborative relationship so that we can come to a shared understanding about the difficulties you are facing and how you would like things to be different. From there we will explore the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be (inadvertently) maintaining the problems as well as considering other responses and strategies that may be more helpful. I encourage feedback and reviews throughout the process to ensure the sessions are helpful and remain focused on your goals. In my work with children and young people I value working alongside parents as their active involvement is essential to gain a better understanding about the child and to ensure that progress continues outside of sessions.

Motivation

I am passionate about supporting people to overcome difficulties that can get in the way of living a fulfilling life. I feel it is a privilege to be able to learn about an individual’s life, which is something I treat with the utmost respect and empathy. It is such a pleasure to be able to witness people achieving their goals and growing as individuals. The strength and commitment that it often takes to be able to do this is so inspiring to me.

About Me

When I am not at work I love being outdoors, going on long walks (and trying not to get lost). I also really enjoy reading and becoming completely immersed in a good story.
