Philosophy
When what we are doing doesn’t seem to be working for us we need to do something different. But what? And how? It can take courage and honesty to acknowledge that we may need a different approach and to begin to explore new ways of thinking and acting. A good therapist is a skilled fellow traveller, working alongside us to help us to identify and use our innate strengths, to make sense of our situation and to widen the possibilities and choices available to us.
Approach
I am a Clinical Psychologist and a registered member of both the British Psychological Society and Health and Care Professions Council UK. I have 25 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist working with wide range of settings and clients. I offer support with managing emotions, building self-confidence and adapting to significant life change. I draw on a range of approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches and solution-focused therapy. I will work collaboratively with you, exploring your desired outcome and goals and discussing possible psychological approaches.
Motivation
I feel privileged to be in a position to help others to know themselves better, to know that that they can continue to grow and develop throughout their lives and to fulfil their potential. The role of psychology and psychotherapy in society is widening. We now find psychologists and therapists in schools, universities, at work and even in sport and leisure. Where we have traditionally seen psychology as fixing something that is wrong – we are now beginning to see psychology as something that helps to understand how to use our strengths to look after own well-being and the well being of others and society at large.
About Me
I love to spend time in wild places – kayaking, skiing or simply walking the dog. The simplicity and immediacy of the challenges of wild places means that we have to be honest. I have always wanted to sail across the ocean – I’m still working on how to do that!
